Hi all. I just wanted to give everyone a little update on what I am doing.
I am doing the PN program at MATC. My first week into the program was highlighted by feeling breasts that weren't my wife's.
We are doing basics. Vital Signs and what not. One of the basic vital signs is Apical pulses. We take this at the 5th intercostal, mid clavicular line, which in laymans terms means right below the left nipple.
Now, this sounds great since there are only 4 guys in my class and I haven't been partnered with any of them yet. But, I am incredibly shy. My first partner, I couldn't hear her heart sounds because the blood was pounding in my own ears to loudly. :)
My second partner told me that she wouldn't tell her husband. Which I think is just wrong. Make me feel like I am hiding something. Then she says in a deep voice, "Hi honey, how did your day go?" followed by in her normal voice, "Oh pretty good, I got felt up in class!"
I was about the 3rd intercostal when she said this. Which is right where you get into breast tissue. I quickly took my hands away and turned bright red. I was so embarrassed. :)
For those of you who might actually be a patient of mine in the future, please keep in mind that this is a classroom setting. In an actual clinical setting, I wouldn't have any problems because it would be a nurse-patient relationship. NOT a peer-peer one. Even if you are a peer outside of the clinical setting, I am a nurse (will be in about 11 months) inside. :)
